Job description
Yassir is hiring an Assistant Online Merchandiser for an on-site role in Johannesburg, South Africa. The position shapes the digital shelf customers see in the Yassir app by maintaining category structures, filters, product information, search and navigation, promotional modules, bundles, cross-sell and upsell experiences. The role works closely with Marketing, Inventory and Operations and uses merchandising systems, analytics dashboards and collaboration tools to improve click-through, add-to-cart, conversion, publishing accuracy and product availability.
Responsibilities
- Maintain clear category trees, sub-categories, filters, tags and product attributes to help customers find relevant SKUs quickly.
- Curate home, search and category modules and maintain accurate product images, titles, bullets and attributes.
- Optimise search and navigation, including synonyms, redirects and product-listing improvements.
- Set up promotions, bundles, cross-sell and upsell experiences with clear merchandising rules.
- Coordinate with Inventory and Operations to reduce out-of-stock exposure on featured and promoted products.
- Optimise landing and collection pages for SEO while maintaining a smooth in-app customer journey.
- Work with Marketing, Inventory and Operations through Slack and Jira and provide clear handovers on risks and blockers.
- Use analytics dashboards to monitor zero-result searches, click-through rate, add-to-cart rate, conversion and publishing accuracy.
- Maintain merchandising documentation, synonym lists, redirect maps and digital-shelf playbooks.
- Suggest process and tooling improvements based on customer behaviour and operational insights.
Requirements
- 1-2 years of experience in ecommerce merchandising, category management or digital content operations.
- Strong graduates may also be considered when they have relevant projects or a portfolio.
- Hands-on experience working with product catalogues, including titles, images, attributes, tags and collections.
- Exposure to search and navigation tuning or product-listing optimisation.
- Excellent organisation, attention to detail and quality-control skills.
- Clear written English for merchandising copy and naming standards.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to read dashboards and turn findings into actions.
- Ability to prioritise and work against a content calendar.
- Collaborative communication skills for working with Marketing, Inventory and Operations teams.
- Comfort using a product CMS or PIM and Google Sheets, including filters, pivot tables, VLOOKUP and CONCAT.
- Familiarity with analytics dashboards and simple A/B testing.
- Working knowledge of Slack and Jira or comparable collaboration/ticketing tools.
- Basic image handling, including cropping and aspect-ratio checks.
- Must be available to work on-site in Johannesburg, Monday to Friday, 08:00-17:00, with occasional after-hours or weekend launch support.
- Matric Certificate or higher; a diploma or degree in Marketing, Business, Information Management or related field is an advantage.
- Awareness of POPIA and data privacy when handling customer or supplier information.
