Job description
PayJoy is hiring a Financial Analyst for its Accounting team in Johannesburg, South Africa. The role works directly with PayJoy South Africa's data warehouse to build, maintain and improve reporting that supports the accounting function. It connects raw transactional and portfolio data with financial statements and requires hands-on SQL and Python skills together with a working understanding of accounting and lending concepts.
Responsibilities
- Extract, clean and transform warehouse data using Hex, SQL and Python to produce recurring and ad hoc reports for accounting and finance.
- Support month-end and year-end close through portfolio roll-forwards, charge-off, provisioning, depreciation, amortisation and effective-interest-rate analyses.
- Reconcile data-warehouse outputs to the general ledger and investigate discrepancies with the accounting team.
- Build and maintain dashboards and automated reporting pipelines to reduce manual effort and improve reporting accuracy and consistency.
- Document data sources, metric definitions and report logic so outputs are auditable and repeatable.
- Support portfolio analytics, including delinquency, monthly active users and other finance or management KPIs.
- Respond to ad hoc analysis requests from Accounting, FP&A and management with accurate, well-documented outputs.
- Identify data-quality issues and work with data and engineering teams to correct them at source.
- Support audit cycles by providing schedules, reconciliations and explanations through the accounting team.

- 1-3 years of experience in financial analysis, reporting, accounting support, financial services, fintech or another data-intensive environment.
- Working knowledge of accounting concepts such as accruals, amortisation, depreciation, provisioning or impairment, and reconciliations.
- Proficiency in SQL for querying and manipulating warehouse data.
- Working proficiency in Python for data analysis and report automation, including tools such as pandas.
- Strong Excel skills for financial modelling and analysis, including formulas and pivot tables.
- Ability to work with large and imperfect datasets and reconcile information across systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organisational and communication skills.
- High attention to detail because the reporting supports audited financial statements and month-end or audit deadlines.
