Job description
Apollo Agriculture is hiring a Manager - Credit Strategy & Operations to own its acquisition credit engine. Nairobi, Kenya is the preferred base, while the official posting also allows remote work within plus or minus four hours of East Africa Time with extensive travel to Nairobi and Apollo markets. The role combines credit strategy, analytics, fraud prevention, portfolio monitoring, cross-functional decision making, field insight, team leadership, and AI-assisted workflows.
Responsibilities
- Own acquisition credit strategy end to end, including approval decisions, credit limits, pricing, product structure, and expected profitability.
- Partner with Product, Commercial, Growth, Engineering, and Finance to align credit strategy with business milestones.
- Build monitoring dashboards, controls, automated triggers, experiments, and impact assessments for credit-policy and portfolio performance.
- Lead fraud and data-verification strategy and the related operations team, including SOPs, incentives, performance management, and quality.
- Spend regular time in the field with farmers, agrodealers, field officers, and verification agents to improve the credit offering.
- Coach and develop team members while building accountability and resilience.
- Use AI tools to reduce turnaround time, automate repetitive work, and improve quality.
Requirements
- 4-7 years of experience in credit, risk, strategy, analytics, or product roles, ideally within financial services or consulting.
- Exposure to credit or lending risk and an understanding of lending economics, pricing, portfolio performance, and risk.
- Strong structured and first-principles problem solving with experience turning ambiguous business problems into implemented policies.
- Exceptional analytical ability, including SQL and dashboard tools.
- Experience collaborating across functions, influencing without formal authority, and leading or developing teams in fast-paced environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to spend meaningful time in the field and travel extensively to Apollo markets.
- Hands-on experience with AI tools and AI-assisted workflows.
- Degree in a quantitative or analytical discipline such as Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or Economics.
- Direct experience designing credit policies or fraud frameworks is a strong advantage.
