Optimization Engineer
Intersect | Remote near approved hubs, US | remote
Source-backed remote Optimization Engineer role at Intersect, focused on energy-market optimization and production systems.
Job description
Intersect is hiring an Optimization Engineer for its Commercial – Origination & Trading team. The role contributes to an optimization platform that turns real-time data, forecasting models and asset intelligence into automated decisions for energy markets. It reports to the Optimization Analytics Lead and supports portfolio value across storage, solar, wind, thermal generation and load assets. The engineer works with trading, engineering and operations partners to make optimization reliable in live conditions. The scope combines production software, mathematical optimization, simulation, forecasting, orchestration and system architecture. The position is part of an energy-infrastructure business developing power and data-center projects in the United States, so the technical work connects algorithm design with commercial performance and operational reality. Day-to-day work includes designing production code for optimization and bidding workflows, improving reproducible orchestration, incorporating uncertainty and financial risk into models, and building feedback loops from observed performance. The posting also emphasizes scalable infrastructure, cloud platforms, strong systems thinking and technical leadership. Intersect describes a fully flexible workplace with approved hubs in the United States and Canada, but applicants must live within 60 miles of a listed hub for occasional in-person collaboration.
Requirements
- Five or more years solving optimization problems in production environments.

- Technical leadership and system-architecture experience.
- Production coding, continuous deployment and scalable reliability experience.
- Working knowledge of Airflow, Temporal, Dagster, Flyte or Argo.
- Strong systems thinking and cross-functional collaboration.
- Graduate degree in operations research, engineering, economics or related field preferred.
