Job description

OpenEd is hiring a Product Engineer for a full-time remote role in the United States. The engineer will join a small, high-impact product team building and maintaining web products used by learners and families. This is a full-stack position with a stronger emphasis on frontend engineering, modern React and TypeScript technologies, product quality, maintainability, and user experience.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain product features using React, Next.js, and modern TypeScript technologies.
  • Deliver maintainable solutions through thoughtful and strategic coding practices.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and agency developers to learn and apply engineering best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews to improve code quality and maintainability.
  • Troubleshoot and fix issues across OpenEd's existing application.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design and architect products and services.
  • Help ensure performance, scalability, availability, and reliability across the technical stack.
  • Contribute to technical documentation and internal knowledge sharing.
  • Work across the stack as needed while maintaining a strong frontend-product focus.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of professional software-development experience in scaling environments.
  • Strong foundation in React and modern TypeScript.
  • Interest in product design and user experience.
  • Basic understanding of web-development fundamentals including HTML, CSS, and API integration.
  • Computer Science degree, completion of a reputable coding bootcamp, or equivalent practical experience supported by a portfolio.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Methodical approach to problem solving and willingness to ask questions when needed.
  • Strong ownership mindset and enthusiasm for building high-quality web applications.
  • Alignment with OpenEd's education mission and willingness to learn from more experienced engineers.
