Job description

Noodle is hiring a Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer for a remote role based in South Africa. The position focuses on building and scaling modern AI-powered web applications, improving functionality, performance, scalability and security, and owning features from technical design through deployment and monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain agent-based web applications using Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, OpenAI APIs and the OpenAI Agents SDK.
  • Contribute to Python API and web applications using Flask.
  • Develop AI-powered user experiences, including conversational, voice and streaming interfaces.
  • Modify and refine AI prompts to support new product capabilities.
  • Integrate with external platforms and services including OpenAI APIs, GraphQL backends, AWS Amplify, MongoDB and learning-management systems using LTI.
  • Architect scalable backend APIs, service layers and tool-execution workflows.
  • Own feature delivery from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment and monitoring.
  • Implement automated tests for new functionality.
  • Improve reliability, observability and performance using tools such as Sentry and OpenTelemetry.
  • Collaborate with product, design and stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Maintain strong engineering standards for code quality, maintainability, testing and documentation.
  • Debug complex production issues across frontend, backend, integrations and realtime systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science
  • Engineering or a related field
  • or equivalent working experience.
  • 5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
  • 2+ years of experience with Next.js and TypeScript.
  • 2+ years of experience using Python with a web framework such as Flask, Django or FastAPI.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AI-assisted software-engineering tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot or similar tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to live and work in South Africa and maintain residency in South Africa throughout employment.
