Job description

Perplexity is hiring a hands-on Member of Technical Staff (Software Engineer, Security) to build and evolve the software, automations, internal tools, and AI-driven agents that power its security operations. The role is available remotely in the United States and also lists several office locations internationally. This STRIDETO record is specifically for the Remote United States option.

  • Implement and enhance internal AI agents and security bots that support monitoring, investigations, reporting, and other security-operations tasks.
  • Develop and operate systems supporting bug bounty and vulnerability-disclosure programs, including intake, triage, prioritization, and remediation tracking.
  • Partner with product and engineering teams to threat model new features and systems, recommend mitigations, and add security guardrails.
  • Contribute to secure-by-default libraries, services, and engineering patterns.
  • Integrate security signals from cloud, endpoints, SaaS systems, and applications into cohesive pipelines and data models.
  • Build automation that reduces manual incident-response, containment, and remediation work.
  • Collaborate with security and software engineers on design reviews, code reviews, and continuous improvement of security tooling.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience as a software engineer, with significant time spent building security-related tools, platforms, or automation, or in a security-engineering role with strong software-development responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in at least one major programming language such as Python, Go, or TypeScript.
  • Experience building production services, command-line tools, or internal engineering tools.
  • Experience integrating with security systems such as logging pipelines, SIEM platforms, EDR, cloud APIs, or identity platforms.
  • Practical experience with threat modeling, secure design, or application-security reviews.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure; AWS experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, own projects end-to-end, and deliver pragmatic high-impact improvements.
  • Preferred / Bonus Experience
  • Experience operating or contributing to bug bounty or vulnerability-management programs.
  • Experience designing or improving AI-powered agents or automation for security operations.
  • Experience working in modern SaaS environments.
